Pain In My Tooth Is It Lyme Disease

July 6th, 2010

Deer Tick According to the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) about 70 percent of patients with Lyme disease had migrating tooth pain; and 35 percent of this group had unnecessary oral surgery like root canals and tooth extractions when there was no existence of dental or periodontal disease.

Lyme disease is a tickborne infection (TBI). It has been traditionally associated with the deer (Ixodes scapularis) and black legged (Ixodes pacificus) ticks infected with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) bacterium. When ticks feed upon animals infected with Borrelia burgdorferi bacterium they become infected. They in turn transmit the bacteria to humans and other non-infected animals as they feed upon them for blood. Because the Lyme disease bacteria have been found in blood concerns have been raised about the likelihood of contracting Lyme disease through blood transfusion. Under current regulations those testing positive cannot be blood donors.

Lyme disease can be difficult to detect because it can mimic the symptoms of a vast number of disorders. It is often called the great pretender or mimic. Tests designed to detect the disease often come up a false positive or do not detect it at all.

Nasal Polyps

June 29th, 2010

Polyp Removal & Endoscopy

Nasal polyps are a benign (non-cancerous growth) that can grow individually or in clusters. No one knows for sure how chronic inflammation of the nasal mucous membrane can lead to polyps but they can be treated. Size can vary from large to small. Coloration can vary from yellowish brown to pink and typically grow in both nostrils. It is possible to have polyps and not know it because there may not be any symptoms.

One of the first indications that something may be wrong is chronic sinusitis or sinus infection. If they are large polyps there can be difficulty breathing because of obstruction (blocking) of the nasal passageway. Other symptoms that can accompany sinus polyps are a constant:

  1. Runny nose
  2. Bad breath odor
  3. Post nasal drip
  4. A feeling that something is in the nose
  5. Pain in the face
  6. Poor sense of smell or taste
  7. Double vision
  8. Snoring
  9. Itching around the eyes
  10. Headache
  11. Nose bleeds

Even sleep apnea has been associated with nasal polyps. If you believe that you have a nasal obstruction then speak with your physician about testing. Your doctor may order a

Can Anorexia Cause Tooth Decay

June 2nd, 2010

Anorexia Nervosa is a serious eating disorder that usually surfaces around early adolescence in teen girls affecting women more than any other group. It is typically seen in middle to upper income groups and Caucasians. Psychologically the condition has been characterized by obsessive fears and desire to control ones body.  The behavior of an anorexic is an endless cycle of excessive exercising, enemas, laxatives, diuretics, diet pills and food restriction to obtain weight loss; Frequently resembling those starving in third world countries.

One of the hidden risks of prolonged eating disorders is a decalcification (perimylolysis) of teeth or thinning of tooth enamel. Teeth may become so eroded (rotten, decayed) that they will have to be removed.

The constant onslaught of (gastric) stomach acid due to vomiting or regurgitation is a breeding ground for gum disease and tooth decay.

Anorexia and bulimia can be very similar in that both may involve induced vomiting.

There are two types of anorexics

Why Do I Have Dry Mouth

May 9th, 2010

Dry mouth (Xerostomia) is a common condition especially among women. Its prevalence increases with aging. One of the leading telltale signs is a reduction or foamy (thick) saliva.

The Causes

For some public speaking or social settings can invoke serious bouts with anxiety. The nervous tension can create embarrassing moments where lips become dry; and, stick to gums or the tongue to the roof of the mouth.

Social settings are not the only cause of xerostomia. Dry mouth can be caused by diabetes and other illnesses. Moreover, medications can be another culprit.

What Are The Effects

Dry mouth is no joke because difficulty speaking or swallowing can occur. Low saliva production often precedes bad breath (halitosis) and the dryness creates a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.

We may not normally associate its affects in other areas of our life, like curtailing our ability to taste food. Persistent dry mouth over time can cause dental decay.

DSE901 Electronic Cigarette Review

March 23rd, 2010

A little longer than 100 size tobacco cigarettes, the DSE901 proved to be my best electronic cigarette yet. . Its moderate weight quickly feels natural in the hands. The complete starter kit was about $28 plus $6 shipping and handling. The package consisted of:

  • 2 atomizers
  • 2 batteries
  • 5 cartridges
  • 1 USA charger

Being a chronic smoker for more than 30 years, like many others I have tried some of the most commonly used smoking cessation products.

To name a few, the nicotine patch and gum this failed miserably after a few weeks. Cold turkey lasted about a year after which I began puffing away again because of stress. It wasn’t until recently I heard of the electronic cigarette smoking alternative and decided to purchase my first starter kit “Smoking Everywhere”. It proved to be a frustrating experience. Puffing away and getting very little or no vapor at all, I then opted to try another kit thinking it would render better results “The E health Cigarette”. It became totally useless after a day and a half when trying to drip e liquid into the cartridge the atomizer separated from casing exposing underling wiring.

Convinced the E cigarette seemed sound in principle and that it would work if I could get
